This course is designed to develop and enhance the skills of the tactical observer/marksman in law enforcement, armed security, corrections, military law enforcement, and other armed professions. Most of the building blocks to tactical scoped rifle marksmanship applicable to the most commonly faced situations achieved. This course includes exercises that will have the student working under stress, from supported and unsupported positions, as well as hasty positions and working under low light situations. The overall goal is to produce a more well-rounded and prepared tactical observer/marksman to meet the ever-increasing needs of their organizations. The training will be conducted using the academies outdoor 300-yard range.
Content to include:
- The tactical observer/marksman team: Composition, Missions, Capabilities, Duties, and Employment
- Logistics: Selection and Applications of the precision tactical scoped rifle, ammunition, support items, and specialty gear.
- Ballistics: Calculation and correction of the precision cold bore and follow-up shot through an understanding of ballistics, ammunition capability, and environmental factors such as reading winds adn mirage.
- Marksmanship: tactical scope fundamentals, firing at distances from 25 through 300 yards.
- Supported, Unsupported, and Alternative shooting positions applicable to urban and rural environments to include use of a sling.
- Engagement of moving and surprise targets.
- Range Estimation Techniques and Technology.
- Intelligence gathering skills: observing, recording, and reporting.
- Tactical Engagement Techniques: Countdowns, Commands, Communicating, and Coordinated Fire Techniques.
- Planning for, operating in, and firing in reduced light conditions with day optics.
- Introduction to engagement through Intermediate Barriers.
